Rainout Information can be found on our Facebook page. We will do our best to call games by 3pm.
RAINOUT GUIDELINES
-If there is standing water on the field and it's continuing to rain...you have a rainout.
- If you can walk to the pitcher's area and look back to see your foot impressions on the infield dirt, it's too wet/soggy to play... you have a rainout.
- It is the Lewis River Manager's responsibility to call the opposing manager to let them know.
- Many times though, it will be raining and wet at 4pm, but okay by 5pm. If the other team is coming from Highlands or Hazel Dell you may need to make the call earlier, but if they're coming from Kalama, La Center, etc. you can probably wait longer before making the call.
DRYING OUT THE FIELD
- For standing water - use the landscape rakes to push water off the field. Do NOT push water from infield dirt to outfield grass. This is what creates the "lip" on the outfield grass. Often you can spread the water out and scarify the field with the rake and the water will sink in.
- If there are wet spots after raking off the water, we can use one bag of Turface per game. Any more than that and we're likely just wasting money as the field is not playable. There will be Turface in your chalk sheds during the season (until we run out). Once it's gone, it's gone, so use it sparingly.
- Minors and Majors - Keep your mound and home plate covered after every practice and game.
We tried to schedule a lot of games this year, knowing we'll likely have some rainouts. Let's keep the kids safe and fields in good condition.
